Medical Errors and Adjudication of Health Care Cases at Trial and on Appeal

Judges learn from patients - some litigants, other not - about their encounter with medical errors of the principal types documented by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Actions against and defense of doctors, hospitals, health insurance companies, HMO's, medical device companies, and regulatory agencies will be featured, highlighting the standards of evidence admissible and excludable under a national survey of evidence law.

To be conducted at the Indiana University / Purdue University Indianapolis School of Law. Residence at the IUPUI Conference Center. The Co-Directors of this judicial health science training event are: Eleanor D. Kinney, JD, MPH, and David H. Orentlicher, MD, JD, both Professors and Co-Directors of the William S. and Christine S. Hall Center for Law and Health, and Eric T. Meslin, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Bio-Ethics, IUPUI School of Medicine.

The Judges' Medical School is scheduled May 29-31 2008.
